A road trip with dogs and the whole shebang

Woof woof! We are Chinook and Makoyi, two Shiba Inu, and we love going for walkies and a sniff around in small but beautiful Switzerland as well as over the border in other exciting countries. We and our lady friend go on trips in our VW van to lots of great places and to visit friends and sometimes we also set up camp behind the dunes near the sea. If our trips are well organised and we have everything with us, it's much more fun. That's why we always have a short checklist to hand so that nothing gets forgotten. Here are a few doggy tips that we are happy to share with you.

Tips and tricks for travelling with dogs
It is very important to find out in advance whether dogs are welcome where you are going, whether the climate is suitable for us and whether all our vaccinations are still valid and noted in our pet passport. To make sure everything is as it should be, we always contact our vet in good time before we set off.
Everything OK? Great! Then there’s nothing standing in the way of our trip abroad.

Switzerland is generally a very dog-friendly country. We are allowed to go everywhere, even on trains, cable cars and boats and we don’t need a muzzle. In some countries, dogs are only allowed on public transport if they are wearing a muzzle. We dogs really appreciate it if our owners check out the regulations beforehand and if necessary buy us a well-fitting muzzle (there are quite a few things that have to be taken into consideration) and we are also really grateful if we can practice wearing it at home before we leave.

So what do we actually need to pack? Well, we have quite a bit of space in our van but you don't actually need that much. The essentials include a lead, a collar with a name tag and phone number with the country code, a harness, a bed, a pet passport, water and food bowls, a water bottle and of course dog waste bags as well as some yummy doggy treats.
We also always take a pet travel medicine kit along. We always have it with us and our mistress also always has a smaller first aid kit in her rucksack.

We always have a remedy for insect bites with us, another for diarrhoea, some disinfectant and arnica globules. Our travel medicine kit actually mainly contains homoeopathic and herbal remedies.

“I will definitely carry on taking Anima-Strath with me on all our travels ️☺️ On the one hand because it’s simply part of our everyday life, and on the other because travelling is always somewhat stressful until we get to our final destination, both for us and as well as for Chinook and Makoyi.
In my opinion Anima-Strath also provides effective support in tiring situations. We don’t want our beloved four-legged friends to get ill while we are on holiday because the stress of travelling has weakened their immune system.” Linda Wigger

The essentials for our doggy travel medicine kit
This may sound like a lot at first, but everything can be packed up quite compactly:
Some pharmacies and special pet care shops sell pre-packaged travel medicine kits for dogs. Please make sure that you not only have plasters, scissors and bandages with you, but also a few remedies which can help in an emergency. Your vet / pet homoeopathic therapist will be happy to give you some advice. Certain vets even offer first aid courses for dog owners. Places we like to visit that are dog friendly.
We all love going on adventures, both up in the mountains and along the coast. Switzerland is obviously our favourite country for hiking and you can find really great and most importantly official campsites where we can spend the night in the van up in the mountains. Our adventures then already begin when we open the door of the van. There's nothing better than breathing in the fresh mountain air early in the morning while still snuggled up next to our mistress in the van, knowing that in less than an hour we'll be the first ones to set out on the trails. Please always take care of nature and only use only legal pitches out of respect for the environment, which has so much to offer us here.
We have already visited Germany and Belgium and we absolutely love the Netherlands with the long, unspoilt and wild sandy beaches where dogs are allowed at certain times of the year (mostly outside the main tourist season). Hikes through the sandy dunes are just as enjoyable as a leisurely break in a nice beach café, where dogs are always welcome. There are also lots of very pretty villages and towns in the Netherlands, and there is almost always a water bowl with a cool drink to quench our thirst in front of the shops. Yes, these are our favourite places and we are also dreaming about a lot of other holiday destinations such as England, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

Our favourite Anima-Strath product for our trips
The great thing about the Anima-Strath products is that they are all ideal for travelling. The tablets are clearly our favourite. No matter whether we're heading out for a weekend or are out on a longer trip, we always take them with us.
