Bad hair day?
A horse's fur reflects the state of its health. Caring for a horse's fur is a key component of caring for your horse.
Cleaning the fur not only removes dirt and sweat residue, but it also gives us a chance to examine the animal
all over. An attentive rider may notice injuries, swelling, skin changes etc. In addition, grooming deepens the bond and increases the trust between horse and rider.
Fur change
The time is ripe in the spring and in the autumn: Horses are ready to put on their new fur. Horse owners often notice that their horses are lethargic, listless and have no energy during this time. They get tired more easily and take longer to recover after exercise. The horse's organism runs at full speed during fur change. Throughout this phase, the horse's body needs more energy and protein (amino acids) to form new hairs. The requirement of trace elements such as zinc, copper and selenium is also higher. During times of such increased strain, make sure that your horse is sufficiently – but not excessively – supplied with vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids.
Early prevention
Of course, you cannot make up for a potential deficiency – or at least a suboptimal diet – in just a few days before the coat change. That's why it's important to take a long-term approach and plan/prevent over several weeks. The addition of Equi-Strath a few weeks before fur change is due to start can optimally prepare the organism for this process. Give your animal the best possible support during this exhausting phase. Your horse will end up having a beautiful, glossy new coat.
